Dr. Emily Corrigan-Kavanagh is a Surrey Future Fellow in Designing AI for Home Wellbeing and Surrey AI Fellow at the University of Surrey, affiliated with the Surrey Institute for People-Centred Artificial Intelligence (PAI) and the Centre for Vision, Speech and Signal Processing (CVSSP). She leads the "Home Wellbeing" special interest group and is pioneering research at the intersection of design, AI, and wellbeing.
Dr. Corrigan-Kavanagh earned her BA (Distinction) in Visual Communication from Dublin Institute of Technology, MA (Distinction) in Design: Critical Practice from Goldsmiths, University of London, and PhD in Creative Research Methods and Designing for Home Happiness from Loughborough University. She is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).
Her research focuses on designing people-centred AI for wellbeing, particularly in home environments. She employs innovative participatory methods including world cafes, design workshops, and art therapy techniques to engage stakeholders in technology design. Her work spans creative research methods, service design, technology for social good, and design for happiness and sustainability.
Analysis of her recent publications reveals a strong trend toward participatory design methods for AI development, with particular emphasis on wellbeing applications in domestic settings. Her work bridges the gap between physical and digital experiences through augmented paper technologies while exploring how sound sensing AI can enhance urban and home environments.

Dr. Corrigan-Kavanagh supervises PhD students working on AI for home wellbeing with young people, inclusive design approaches, and video conferencing systems for older adults. She has secured significant funding for projects including the EPSRC-funded "AI for Sound" and "Next Generation Paper Project," where she serves as lead Research Fellow in Design. Her work with the "Home Wellbeing" special interest group organizes events that bring together academics, industry partners, and community members to explore future technologies for home wellbeing.
