Chris Corrigan is a Senior Lecturer (Education) at Queen’s University Belfast, affiliated with the School of Arts, English and Languages and the Sonic Arts Research Centre. He holds a Tonmeister (Music and Sound Recording) degree from the University of Surrey. With over 25 years in academia, he transitioned from technical roles (Studio Assistant, Technical Manager of SARCh) to academic staff in 2014. He served as Subject Lead for Music (2018–2022) and is an AdvanceHE Senior Fellow (SFHEA). His expertise spans audio engineering, immersive media, and contemporary composition. He is an external examiner at Catalyst Institute Berlin and Dundalk Institute of Technology.
Research interests focus on recording techniques for immersive formats and blending traditional/folk music with contemporary practices. Notable works include the first Dolby Atmos orchestral recording (Environments) and compositions premiered at Belfast International Arts Festival. He teaches modules like Audio Mixing, Sound Recording, and Professional Practice, and developed a MOOC (Critical Listening for Studio Production) with 10K+ enrollments. Awards include QUB Teaching Award (2019) and QS Reimagine Education shortlist (2024).
Key activities include organizing ICMC 2008, Sonorities Festival (1999–2012), and serving on the QAA Music Benchmark panel. He is an Avid Certified Instructor offering Pro Tools certifications and actively contributes to peer reviews and international conferences.
