Dr. Emily Christopher is a Lecturer in Sociology and Policy at Aston University, joining in January 2020. She holds a PhD in Women and Gender Studies from the University of Warwick. Her research focuses on gendered inequalities in paid and unpaid work, particularly the intersection of UK policy, workplace cultures, and domestic labor divisions. She explores how these factors influence couples’ negotiations of household tasks and relationship stability.
Teaching interests include modules on Work, Organisations and Society; Global Society; Critical Policy Analysis; and Business, Government and Society. She also supervises dissertation projects.
Her research methodologies emphasize innovative visual approaches to study domestic labor, aiming to improve conceptualization and measurement. Current projects examine how involvement in housework and childcare impacts relationship dissolution risks.
Emily’s work bridges sociological theory with policy analysis, highlighting the role of institutional gatekeeping and gender norms in perpetuating inequalities. She has contributed to peer-reviewed journals and employs open-access publishing to disseminate findings.
