Marie Evertsson is Professor of Sociology in Social Policy at the Swedish Institute for Social Research (SOFI), Stockholm University. Since August 2024, she serves as Director of SOFI, leading one of Scandinavia's prominent social research institutes.
Her research expertise centers on gender inequalities within both domestic and professional spheres, with particular emphasis on the gendered division of paid and unpaid labor and how family policies affect workforce participation for women and men across different societal contexts.

Evertsson leads SOFI's GAINS research group (Gender Analysis and Interdisciplinary research Network, Stockholm), a cross-disciplinary initiative focusing on gender-related issues in labor markets, health outcomes, educational systems, and family dynamics. Her work with the Social Policy unit examines welfare state development and policy impacts through international comparative frameworks using quantitative methodologies.
