Emily Blyth is a Principal Research Fellow at the University of Sydney's Sydney Medical School, affiliated with the Westmead Clinical School within the Faculty of Medicine and Health. Her research focuses on immunotherapy strategies for haematological malignancies, transplantation-related challenges, and viral infections post-stem cell transplant. She leads studies on T-cell-based therapies, including chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cells and virus-specific T-cells, aiming to improve outcomes for patients with blood cancers and immunocompromised states.
Her research integrates clinical trials, translational medicine, and immune monitoring. Key areas include:
- Development of CAR T-cell therapies for B-cell malignancies
- Management of cytomegalovirus (CMV) and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) reactivation post-transplant
- Optimization of stem cell transplant protocols to reduce graft-versus-host disease
- Clinical implementation of adoptive T-cell therapies
Recent work highlights include the ANZTCT position statement on post-transplant COVID-19 management and clinical trials evaluating multi-target T-cell therapies. Awards include the 2021 NSW Premier’s Award for Outstanding Cancer Research and NHMRC Early Career Fellowships.
Her grants span over 15 projects, including NHMRC-funded studies on novel CAR-T combinations and precision medicine initiatives. Collaborations involve institutions like the Westmead Institute for Medical Research and CanTeen.
