Malcolm K Brenner, M.D., Ph.D., is a Professor at Baylor College of Medicine with appointments in the Center for Cell and Gene Therapy, Department of Molecular and Human Genetics, Department of Pediatrics, Department of Medicine, and the Program in Translational Biology & Molecular Medicine. He is also a member of the Dan L Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center and affiliated with Houston Methodist Hospital's Blood, Marrow and Cell Therapy Center.

- BA (1972), University of Cambridge
- MBChB (1975), Westminster Medical College
- PhD (1981), University of Cambridge
Dr. Brenner's research focuses on gene therapy and cancer immunotherapy, particularly using genetically modified T cells expressing chimeric antigen receptors (CARs) to target neuroblastoma, Hodgkin Disease, Glioblastoma, and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) associated malignancies. He developed an inducible caspase system for safety in T-cell therapies and explores synergies between adoptive transfer strategies and tumor immunization.
His clinical studies include EBV-specific T cells for lymphomas, CAR-T cells for solid and hematological tumors, and mesenchymal stem cells for osteogenesis imperfecta. Collaborations with Drs. Rooney, Heslop, and Bollard have led to significant clinical advances, including complete remissions in EBV-positive lymphoma patients.
Dr. Brenner's work combines genetic engineering, immunotherapy, and translational biology to enhance T-cell effectiveness and safety. Current trials evaluate monoclonal antibodies targeting immunological checkpoints to improve T-cell persistence and activity.
