Emily Alden is an Associate Lecturer in Dance & Choreography at Falmouth University, where she has been teaching since 2010, with part-time roles from 2014–2016. She specializes in training dancers technically and expressively, multidisciplinary collaboration, and performance. Her work spans live and digital formats, including dance films with filmmaker Brett Harvey, and explores themes like everyday sound and hearing loss through projects like In My Head.
Education: BA (Hons) Contemporary Dance (Bretton Hall College of Arts, 2001); PGCHE (Falmouth University, 2012).
Research interests include dance photography, movement direction for film/theatre, and collaborations across disciplines. Recent projects include an Arts Council-funded In My Head (2019–2021), exploring sound and hearing loss, and curating workshops at Hall for Cornwall. She also leads professional development programs like the Immersive Imaginations Workshop series.
Awards: Honored as an Associate Artist at Hall for Cornwall (2019). Grants include support from the Arts Council England and British Council for research and artistic development projects since 2016.
Teaching focuses on contemporary techniques, choreography, and performance skills for BA(Hons) Dance & Choreography students. She has spearheaded outreach initiatives like Freefall FUEL and collaborated with organizations such as FEAST Cornwall and Kneehigh Theatre.
