Dr. Emilio Marti is an Associate Professor in the Department of Business-Society Management at Rotterdam School of Management (RSM), Erasmus University Rotterdam. He joined RSM in April 2018 after completing postdoctoral positions at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, and Bayes Business School, City, University of London. He earned his PhD from the University of Zurich in 2015.
As an organizational theorist, Dr. Marti specializes in corporate sustainability with particular focus on sustainable investing and its impact on corporate sustainability practices. His research program examines the complex relationship between shareholder activism and corporate sustainability, investigating both the potentially positive role of shareholder engagement and the potentially negative role of activist hedge funds in business sustainability. His work bridges theoretical organizational theory with practical sustainability challenges facing businesses today.
Dr. Marti's scholarly work has been published in premier management journals including Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Journal of Management Studies, and Organization Science. His publications span from 2016 to 2025, with significant impact as evidenced by high citation counts and extensive media coverage across 27+ news outlets including Harvard Business Review and The Telegraph.

At RSM, Dr. Marti teaches in a master's program dedicated to business sustainability with approximately 140 students annually. He teaches courses including Sustainable Investing and Inner Development Goal Weeks. Beyond his university position, he serves in an advisory capacity for Rezonanz, a startup based in Zurich. Dr. Marti strongly identifies with RSM's mission to be a force for positive change and finds it motivating to teach students who go on to become sustainability consultants or take sustainability-related roles in leading companies.
