Emilio Caroli is a Lecturer in the Department of Legal Studies at Bocconi University, specializing in Roman Law and its influence on modern European legal systems. He holds a Master’s in Law from the University of Rome La Sapienza and a PhD in Legal Studies from the University of Milan. His research focuses on late antiquity legislation, particularly the fair trial principles in Roman imperial law and the evolution of legal systems in the Later Roman Empire. He has conducted research in Germany and France at institutions including Dresden, Heidelberg, Munich, and Paris universities.
Research interests include mediation/arbitration in European legal traditions, and the reception of Roman law into contemporary legal frameworks. Teaching responsibilities include courses on Roman Law modules, historical foundations of civil law, and legal history from antiquity to modern eras. His publications analyze imperial fiscal jurisdiction, late antique legal terminology, and Justinian-era legal structures.
No scientific awards are listed, but his work contributes to foundational legal historiography. He maintains academic ties with the Accademia Romanistica Costantiniana and Società Italiana di Storia del Diritto.
