Emilie Morin

Professor Emilie Morin holds the position of Professor of Modern Literature at the University of York's Department of English and Related Literature. She joined the faculty as a Lecturer in 2008, was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2015, and became a full Professor in 2019. Her research focuses on modern and contemporary literature, drama, and the transnational history of literary modernism, with particular emphasis on radiophonic forms and intersections of literature with technology.

Education: She completed her PhD at Queen’s University Belfast.

Research Interests: Her work explores European modernism, avant-garde movements, Samuel Beckett's political and cultural contexts, and the historical contextualization of theatre and literature. Recent projects include a Leverhulme Fellowship investigating 'Radio Literature and the Radiophonic Imagination in Europe, 1924–1939' and the co-edited anthology Early Radio: An Anthology of European Texts and Translations (2023).

Awards: She received a Leverhulme Research Fellowship (2021–2022).

Teaching and Supervision: She supervises doctoral research on topics ranging from modernist drama to migration narratives and has taught modules on modernism, experimental writing, and Samuel Beckett. She collaborates on initiatives like the AHRC-funded 'Creative Activism' project and contributes to international exhibitions, such as the Swedish Academy’s digital exhibition on Samuel Beckett.

External Activities: She has delivered talks at institutions like the National Theatre and collaborated with global partners, including the Chittagong University Institute of Fine Arts and Femrite (Uganda), on projects blending art and human rights.
