Nicholas Johnson is an Associate Professor of Drama at Trinity College Dublin since 2008, specializing in Samuel Beckett studies, interdisciplinary performance, and modernist aesthetics. He co-founded the Trinity Centre for Beckett Studies, directing the Samuel Beckett Summer School and the Samuel Beckett Laboratory. His research bridges theatre, digital humanities, and neuroscience, with notable projects in virtual reality (VR) and volumetric video adaptations of Beckett’s works.
Key achievements include co-authoring *Experimental Beckett* (2020), editing volumes on Beckett’s influence, and translating Brecht’s *David Fragments*. He has held visiting positions at Freie Universität Berlin and Yale University. His work explores intersections of technology, pedagogy, and performance, including collaborations with computer science and medical humanities initiatives.
Johnson’s awards include the Provost’s Teaching Excellence Award (2013) and the George J. Mitchell Scholarship (2005). He advises on interdisciplinary projects and leads the Creative Arts Practice research theme at Trinity College.
