Dr Emiliano Rustighi is a Visiting Fellow at the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research (ISVR), University of Southampton. He holds a Dott.Ing. and PhD from the University of Pisa (2000 and 2004 respectively), with a thesis on rotating machinery analysis and control. His career includes roles as Research Fellow (2004), Lecturer (2007), and Associate Professor (2015) at ISVR.
- Education: BSc (Hons) Mechanical Engineering (University of Pisa, 2000)
- PhD (University of Pisa, 2004)
Research focuses on smart structures integrating sensors/transducers for vibration control, energy harvesting, and underground utility detection. Key projects include 'Zero Leakage 2050' (acoustic leak detection) and 'Mapping the Underworld' (EPSRC-funded utility sensing). He has chaired RASD conferences (2013, 2016, 2019) and MoViC 2016. Serves as subject editor for the Journal of Vibration and Control.
Grants include EPSRC funding for MTU and UKWIR collaboration on water infrastructure research. Active in rotordynamics, muscle modeling, and tunable vibration absorbers. Collaborates with industry on smart materials (shape memory alloys, magneto-rheological fluids).
Labs/Teams: Member of the Dynamics Group at ISVR, leading projects in structural dynamics and vibration control.
