Emeline Martin is an Assistant Professor at the Université libre de Bruxelles' Department of History, Arts and Archaeology, affiliated with the CReA-PATRIMOINE Research Centre in Archaeology and Heritage. She began her academic career with dual Master's degrees from ULB: History (Archives specialization, 2019) and Art History/Archaeology (Archaeology Practice, 2020), followed by teaching certification. After working as a secondary teacher and archaeologist, she joined ULB as an assistant in 2022 while commencing doctoral research on medieval monastic water systems.
Her research examines hydraulic networks in Brabant religious establishments, analyzing how water organization reflects functional uses in abbeys like Villers-en-Brabant, La Cambre, and Forest. Key interests include:
- Medieval hydraulic engineering and infrastructure
- Monastic estate management and resource utilization
- Archaeological excavation methodology
- Material culture analysis in religious contexts
- Historical development of monastic domains
Martin teaches four archaeology courses: Introduction to Archaeological Practice, Archaeological Problem Resolution, Excavation Tutorials, and the CReA-Patrimoine Seminar. She directs fieldwork at Thuin's prehistoric site and Preuilly Abbey excavations. Her publications demonstrate consistent focus on monastic archaeology, with recent studies exploring fish resource management (2025), Cistercian land development (2025), and water systems analysis (2024-2025).
