Emanuel Stelzer is an Associate Professor in English Literature at the University of Verona's Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures. He holds roles in academic governance, including membership in the Faculty Board of the PhD in Foreign Literatures and Languages and the Commissione Didattica. His research focuses on early modern literature and drama, textual studies, and visual culture's intersection with textuality. He is the author of influential monographs like Portraits in Early Modern English Drama (2019) and Shakespeare Among Italian Criminologists and Psychiatrists (2021). His work has earned prestigious awards, including the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Seal of Excellence and the Huntington Library Quarterly's Centennial Essay Prize.
Teaching responsibilities include modules on English literature for undergraduate and master’s programs, such as English Literature 1-3, Analysis of the Dramatic Text, and Traduzione intermediale e Scrittura creativa. He actively contributes to academic initiatives like the Skenè: Journal of Theatre and Drama Studies as managing editor and participates in research projects such as SENS (Shakespeare’s Narrative Sources) and DAIH (Digital Arena for Inclusive Humanities).
Research interests span early modern paradoxes, classical mythology in drama, and digital humanities. He leads projects on classical receptions in early modern English drama and promotes inclusive digital pedagogy through the University’s Excellence Project in Digital Humanities.
