Eman Ghoneim

Dr. Eman Ghoneim is an Associate Professor in the Department of Earth and Ocean Sciences at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW), where she also directs the Space and Drone Remote Sensing Lab (SDRS). She holds a Ph.D. in Physical Geography from the University of Southampton (2002) and has held academic roles including Research Assistant Professor at Boston University (2003–2010). Her research focuses on remote sensing applications in hydrology, groundwater exploration, climate change impacts, and archaeological geography, with notable discoveries like the Ahramat Nile Branch and ancient mega-lakes in Sudan and Libya. She has published over 77 peer-reviewed articles and delivered workshops across Egypt, UAE, Lebanon, and Sudan.

Awards: She has received prestigious teaching awards including the UNC Board of Governors Excellence in Teaching Award (2021) and the Egyptian Women Can Empowerment Award (2017). Her 2007 paper on Sahara craters won the Best Letter Award from the Remote Sensing Society.

Grants & Leadership: Led NSF-funded projects like 'In Search of the Ancient Nile' (2021–2024) and 'Geothermal Study in Gulf of Suez' (2018–2020). Collaborates internationally with UNDP, UNESCO, and the Libyan National Oil Corporation.
