Elvira Wakelnig is an Associate Professor in the Department of Near Eastern Studies at the University of Vienna. Her research and teaching focus on socio-economic and cultural longue-durée phenomena in the Middle East and North Africa, intellectual history of the Arabic-Islamic world up to the 15th century CE, and interdisciplinary approaches to manuscript-transmitted texts. She teaches courses on Arabic linguistics, philosophy, medicine, and occult sciences, including topics such as Galen’s medical traditions and talismanic practices.
