Elsa Úbeda serves as Director of the Catalan Language Program and Lecturer in Catalan at Columbia University. She has been teaching and directing the Catalan program at Columbia since 2009, following her position as a Catalan Lecturer in the Spanish and Portuguese Department at Georgetown University from 2007-2009. Previously, she received a Fulbright Fellowship to work as a Spanish lecturer at Susquehanna University in 2003.
Her research focuses on conversation analysis for second language acquisition (SLA), L2 interactional competence, L2 classroom discourse, and second-language teaching methodology. These areas reflect her dedication to understanding and improving language teaching practices, particularly for Catalan and Spanish as foreign languages.
Dr. Úbeda holds an M.A. in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language from the Universidad Menéndez Pelayo in Spain and is currently pursuing doctoral studies in Education at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.
