Elona Hoover is a Research Fellow at the University of Brighton's School of Humanities and Social Science, specializing in interdisciplinary human geography. Her work focuses on urban commoning, social solidarity, and sustainability in higher education. She holds a PhD from the University of Brighton (2020) and a Master's in Sustainability (2013), complementing her undergraduate Human Sciences degree from Sussex (2009). Hoover has held a Visiting Fellowship at Fudan University (2015-16) and is an Associate Fellow at laboratoire EXPERICE (2021-present).
Her research bridges theory and practice through community partnerships, evaluating intangible legacies and values-based approaches. Notable projects include the ESRC-funded South Coast Doctoral Training Partnership and leadership in initiatives like the Brighton Food Co-op. Hoover’s scholarship examines urban spaces through lenses of discomfort, solidarity, and poetic commoning.
Key contributions include analyzing extractivism through feminist political ecology and exploring solidarity economies in urban contexts. She actively engages in public outreach through workshops like 'Writing the Urban' (2019) and 'Collaborative Future Fictions' (2018).
