Assoc. Prof. Dr. Elmar Aigner is a Department Chair in the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Nephrology, Metabolism and Diabetology at Paracelsus Medical University. His research focuses on nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), metabolic disorders, cardiovascular risk prediction, and liver fibrosis mechanisms. He has led or co-led multiple funded projects investigating topics like bile acid roles in glucose homeostasis and lipidomics in NAFLD. Aigner has authored/co-authored over 180 peer-reviewed publications, with a recent emphasis on polygenic risk scores, gut-liver crosstalk, and Tangier disease metabolism. He actively organizes conferences on hepatology, portal hypertension, and nutrition medicine, reflecting his commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration and clinical education.
