Elliot Shapiro is a Senior Lecturer in the John S. Knight Institute for Writing in the Disciplines at Cornell University, where he serves as Director of the Writing in the Majors program and co-founder of the University Courses Initiative (2011-2017). He teaches courses in the Jewish Studies Program, including Jews on Film: Visible and Invisible and Jewish Films and Filmmakers: Hollywood and Beyond. His academic roles also include directing the Faculty Seminar in Writing Instruction and offering graduate courses such as Teaching Writing and Writing in the Majors Seminar.

Shapiro's research focuses on interdisciplinary writing pedagogy, Jewish representation in cinema, and academic labor dynamics. His recent publications analyze graduate student training, Woody Allen's portrayal of women, and filmic explorations of cultural identity. He has presented at conferences including the Modern Language Association and Association for Jewish Studies.
Shapiro contributes to academic discourse through works in progress examining teaching memoirs and graduate labor ethics. He actively engages with Cornell Cinema Advisory Board, Temple Beth El, and the Belle Sherman After School program, while his teaching spans expository writing, graduate pedagogical training, and film analysis.
