Roles & Affiliations: Ellie Nimeroski is a Doctoral Researcher at the Orpheus Institute, affiliated with Ghent University. Her research focuses on violin bows and historical performance practices, conducted within the docARTES PhD program.
Education: B.A. in Early Music from McGill University, Montreal.
Research Interests: Combining violin performance and bow-making expertise, Ellie investigates the creative collaboration between bow-maker François Xavier Tourte and violinist Giovanni Battista Viotti. Her work explores the technical and aesthetic evolution of 18th-century bows, their influence on performance techniques, and the legacy of Parisian conservatoire pedagogy. Projects include In the making: François Xavier Tourte and l'archet de Viotti, analyzing bow design mechanisms and historical performance contexts.
Performance & Teaching: Active performer with ensembles like Les Talens Lyriques and Les Paladins since 2012. Engages in teaching and cross-disciplinary exchanges linking instrument-making with performance practice.
Supervision: Supervised by Dr. Tom Beghin (KU Leuven/LUCA) and co-supervised by Emeritus Prof. Carl Van Eyndhoven (KU Leuven). Her doctoral defense in June 2022 explored “A Bow’s-eye View: Perspectives from a Violinist at the Workbench”.
Labs/Teams: Centralized at the Orpheus Institute, collaborating with institutions like the musée de la Musique (Paris) and Yale Collection of Musical Instruments.
