Ellie Cole is a Research Fellow at the Global Disability Innovation Hub and an Honorary Research Associate at University College London. Her academic roles span research in disability-inclusive international development, with a focus on Africa and Asia. She holds a PhD from UCL, funded by the ESRC, analyzing health restrictions for people with disabilities during the Ebola crisis and pandemic responses in Liberia, alongside an MSc in Global Health and Development from UCL.
Her research interests include climate justice, disability rights, global health equity, and sustainable development goals such as reducing inequalities and achieving climate action. She has collaborated with organizations like the DEC, Red Cross, and VSO, leading evaluations of disability-inclusive programs.
Ellie’s work bridges policy analysis and grassroots implementation, emphasizing institutional reforms to improve disability inclusion in African regional policies. Her publications address climate resilience, healthcare access in crises, and mobility challenges for disabled populations in low-resource settings.
Her research trends highlight interdisciplinary approaches addressing intersectional vulnerabilities, particularly for people with disabilities in global health crises and climate-sensitive contexts. She actively contributes to SDGs 3 (Health), 10 (Inequality), 1 (Poverty), 5 (Gender), and 13 (Climate).
Grant funding includes ESRC support for her PhD and UBEL DTP partnerships. She advises on disability-inclusive development strategies and has pioneered research toolkits for disabled people’s organizations.
