Dr Ellen Wright is a Senior Lecturer in Cinema and Television History at Leicester Media School, De Montfort University, where she also serves as Deputy Head of Programme for Film Studies and Student Representative Liaison. She is a core member of the Cinema and Television History Centre (CATH) and teaches courses in Cult Film and Film and Material Cultures.
Research Interests: Her research centers on classical Hollywood cinema (1930–1960), with a focus on gender, sexuality, stardom, fan cultures, and material artifacts such as fan magazines, promotional materials, and Tijuana bibles. She employs discourse analysis and cultural history methods to examine how star personae, censorship, and media narratives shape identity and consumption.
Publications and Research Trends: Her recent publications explore the intersections of celebrity, erotica, and cultural politics, particularly in wartime and post-war contexts. Recurring themes include the commodification of female stars, fan economies, moral panics, and the use of non-canonical sources in film historiography. Her work often bridges academic and public scholarship through blogging and podcasting.
