Dr. Djoymi Baker is a Senior Lecturer in Media and Cinema Studies at RMIT University’s School of Media & Communication, where she also serves as Program Manager for Media. Her research focuses on film and television genres, children’s screen cultures, myth in popular culture, stardom, and ethical representation of non-human entities in media. She has authored To Boldly Go: Marketing the Myth of Star Trek and co-authored The Encyclopedia of Epic Films and Netflix, Dark Fantastic Genres and Intergenerational Viewing.
- Industry Experience: Chief Investigator for the Australian Children’s Television Cultures project (funded by the Australian Children’s Television Foundation), ABC Radio television reviewer, and former Australian television industry professional.
- Supervision: Actively guides research projects on topics like Satan in cinema, Australian Netflix/Stan films, Gen Z television, and child performance in 1960s sitcoms.
- Grants & Projects: Collaborates on projects analyzing children’s streaming habits, intergenerational viewing trends, and the evolving role of children’s television in education and culture.
Her work appears in journals such as Critical Studies in Television, Celebrity Studies, and Studies in Documentary Film, with a focus on bridging academic research and industry insights.
