Ellen Schafheutle

Ellen Schafheutle is a Professor of Pharmacy Policy and Practice at the University of Manchester, serving as Director of the Centre for Pharmacy Workforce Studies (CPWS) and Head of the Drug Usage and Pharmacy Practice (DUPP) group. With over 25 years of experience in health services and pharmacy practice research, her work focuses on pharmacy policy, workforce dynamics, professional regulation, and education. She has published over 90 peer-reviewed journal articles and won the prestigious 2014 Royal Pharmaceutical Society’s Pharmacy Research UK Award for her contributions to pharmacy practice research.

Her teaching responsibilities include leading pharmacy law and professional regulation modules for undergraduate MPharm students. She supervises PhD, MPhil, and MClinRes students and has mentored over 11 doctoral candidates to completion. Ellen’s research has been funded by organizations such as the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, General Pharmaceutical Council, and National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR).

Key projects include evaluating the Pharmacy Quality Scheme (PQS) and investigating workforce challenges in community pharmacies.
