Ellen Klatter

Dr. Ellen Klatter is a Lecturer in Vocational Education Strengthening and Lecturer in Study Success at Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences. Her research focuses on vocational education, study success, and educational quality, with particular attention to transitions between different educational levels and professional development of teachers.

Her educational background includes:

• Studied Educational Sciences at the University of Groningen
• PhD at Radboud University in Nijmegen

Before joining Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences, she worked as a researcher at Erasmus University Rotterdam and as a lecturer in Didactics of Technology Education at Fontys.

Dr. Klatter's research interests span vocational education, study success, educational quality, teacher professional development, student transitions, pedagogy, and didactics. She leads a research group focused on "research-based work on educational quality," supporting the design of teaching and learning processes. She has published the advisory report "Grip on Study Success" and numerous academic and professional publications on student progression, pedagogy, and study success.

Her recent publications demonstrate strong trends in vocational education pathways, teacher-student interactions, educational quality assessment, and interventions to improve student success. Much of her work examines the Rotterdam educational context, particularly the transition from vocational education to higher professional education. She also explores the professional identity of vocational teachers and how pedagogical relationships impact student success.

Dr. Klatter has received recognition for her work, including delivering a public lecture on "Professional identity in perspective" which attracted over 150 attendees from the education sector.

She actively supervises master's and PhD students and advises students, lecturers, and teacher educators on conducting practical research. Her work connects strongly with educational practice through advisory and support meetings with project teams from various programs.

Dr. Klatter is also active nationally on various councils and is a research member of the program committee "Connecting (Vocational) Education and the Labor Market," under the auspices of the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NRO). She chairs the Knowledge Network for Vocational Education.
