معرفی
Ella Puman is an Associate Professor of Theoretical Mechanics at the University of Tartu's Faculty of Science and Technology, affiliated with the Institute of Mathematics and Statistics. She has held this position since 2021, with prior roles including Associate Professor (2019-2020) and Lecturer (2011-2014). Her career spans over three decades at the University of Tartu, beginning as a researcher in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Mechanics.
Educated at Tartu University, she earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Mathematics in 2000 under the supervision of Jaan Lellep, focusing on the optimization of plastic conical shells. Her educational background includes a master’s degree in Mathematics (1994) and a bachelor’s in Applied Mathematics (1992).
Her research interests center on structural mechanics, specifically the analysis and optimization of elastic and plastic shells, including conical and stepped configurations. She also explores pedagogical methods in mathematics education, particularly in hybrid and distance learning environments. Her work integrates differential equations and applied mathematics to solve real-world structural challenges.
Puman has contributed to over 30 publications, including peer-reviewed articles and conference proceedings. Notable works address blast loading effects on conical shells, optimal design strategies, and student experiences in hybrid learning. She has led or contributed to multiple research projects, such as the 'Models of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics' (2003–2007) and 'Structural Problems in Analysis, Algebra, and Geometry' (2014–2019).
She has been recognized for her teaching excellence, receiving awards like the 'Best Lecturer of the Year' (2021) and grants for educational innovation. Puman has supervised two master’s theses and served on academic committees, including chairing the Mathematics Bachelor’s and Master’s Thesis Defense Committee (2021–2022).
