Dr. Ella Chmielewska is a Senior Lecturer in Cultural Studies at the University of Edinburgh's Edinburgh School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture (ESALA). Her work bridges architecture, urban studies, and cultural memory with a focus on post-socialist cities, Cold War legacies, and the materiality of visual representation.

Chmielewska's research explores the intersections of urban walls, memory, and political structures, particularly in Warsaw. Her recent publications include works on urban afterimages, archival practices, and Cold War neon aesthetics.
Active in academic events, she has presented at conferences like AHRA 2019 and delivered invited talks on urban narratives and Cold War architecture. She supervises PhD students Jane McArthur and Paulina Szturc while leading projects on European-Chinese curriculum development and postwar urban heritage.
