Elizabeth Saylor is Assistant Professor of Arabic at North Carolina State University's Department of World Languages and Cultures. Her research focuses on Arab women's literature, mahjar literature, the early Arabic novel, and early Syrian immigration to North and South America.
Saylor holds a PhD in Arabic Literature from the University of California, Berkeley, an MA from UC Berkeley, and a BA from Columbia University. She is an award-winning teacher of Arabic language.
Her current projects include the Yallah Al-Quds Virtual Language and Culture Exchange Program and the Mapping Women Writers in the Mahjar Digital Humanities Project. Saylor's publications examine gender, hybridity, and transnationalism in early Arabic fiction by immigrant women writers.
