Elizabeth Reynolds is a Lecturer in the Global Studies Program at Washington University in St. Louis. She teaches courses on China, Tibet, and their global interactions. Her research focuses on the economic history of Tibet, including monastic economies, currency, labor systems, and long-distance trade networks. She also co-runs the Global Citizenship Program and facilitates the Global Studies Research Methods Proseminar and Assistantship program.
Dr. Reynolds earned her PhD in History from Columbia University in 2020. She joined Washington University as a postdoctoral fellow in the History Department before transitioning to her current role in 2023. Her research has been supported by the Luce/ACLS, Mellon/ACLS, and the Social Science Research Council.
Her recent courses include 'Chinese Economy in World History,' which explores China's historical role in global economic development from the 18th century to the present. This course addresses topics like the Great Divergence, Maoist socialism, and China's modern economic rise and global engagements.
