Dr. Elizabeth Rechniewski is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Sydney's Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. As Chief Investigator on the ARC Discovery Project 'Judging the Past in a Post-Cold War World', she examines how nations reconceptualize historical narratives after ideological shifts. Her work analyzes memory politics across Chile, France, Indonesia, and Spain.
Research Focus: Three interconnected themes: 1) colonial memory and commemoration practices, 2) representation of indigenous soldiers in war narratives, and 3) discourse analysis of ideological texts. Her comparative approach reveals patterns in how societies confront difficult histories.
Geographic Expertise: Research spans Australia, New Caledonia, French Polynesia, and European contexts. Explores French-Australian colonial intersections and competing historical narratives.
Honors: Awarded Chevalier des Palmes Académiques for contributions to French-Australian academic exchange. Leads international collaborations on nuclear legacy and memory studies.
