Elizabeth Petrie is a faculty member at Western Colorado University, affiliated with the Clark Family School of Environment & Sustainability and the Natural & Environmental Sciences Department. She holds the Moncrief Chair in Petroleum Geology and teaches a range of geology courses, including Physical Geology, Structural Geology, and Advanced Field Geology. Her research focuses on structural geology, fracture analysis, and rock mechanics, with applications in energy resources and subsurface fluid dynamics.
- PhD in Geology (2014) from Utah State University
- MS in Geology (2003) from Utah State University
- B.S. in Earth & Planetary Sciences (2000) and Biology (2000) from University of New Mexico
Her research combines fieldwork, laboratory experiments, and subsurface data to study fracture development, fault zones, and fluid flow in sedimentary rocks. She emphasizes preparing students for sustainable energy challenges through coursework and field research.
Elizabeth Petrie is actively involved in mentoring undergraduate students, particularly in petroleum geology and structural geology projects, though she does not hold any listed scientific awards or part-time status.
