Dr. Elizabeth Pearson is a Senior Lecturer in Criminology at Royal Holloway, University of London's Department of Law and Criminology, where she serves as Programme Lead for the MSc Terrorism and Counter-Terrorism Studies course taught at the central London campus. She teaches across both postgraduate and undergraduate programs, including Debates in Terrorism (as Module Convenor), Debates in Counter-Terrorism, Contemporary Debates in Terrorism, and Dissertation modules.
Her research expertise centers on gender dynamics within extremism and counter-terrorism frameworks. Pearson's scholarly work examines how gender, particularly masculinity, intersects with radicalization processes across diverse extremist movements including the radical right, Anjem Choudary's al-Muhajiroun network, and Islamic extremist groups. Her research methodology combines field interviews with extremist leaders, analysis of online extremist content, and cross-national comparative studies.
Her publications demonstrate consistent focus on how gender factors into both extremist recruitment and counter-terrorism strategies. Recent research output includes studies on researcher safety in online extremism research, the relationship between intimate partner violence and susceptibility to extremism, and the weaponization of gender narratives in far-right discourse.

Pearson maintains active external engagements including service on the Editorial Board of the International Centre for Counter-terrorism (since 2021) and as an Associate Fellow of the Royal United Services Institute (since 2015). Her research projects demonstrate sustained funding and collaboration across multiple institutions, with current work examining researcher welfare in online extremism studies and the intersection of artificial intelligence with political agency.
