Elizabeth Patton serves as Chair and Associate Professor in the Department of Media & Communication Studies at University of Maryland, Baltimore County. She earned her Ph.D. in 2013 from New York University's Department of Media, Culture and Communication. Her scholarship explores intersections of media history, identity construction, and spatial dynamics.

Research focuses on how media practices shaped cultural understandings of domestic workspaces, leisure activities, and racialized urban environments. Current projects include documenting Black leisure practices as historical resistance and analyzing Jim Crow-era media representations of tourism.
Recent publications include book chapters in Media Crossroads: Intersections of Space and Identity in Screen Cultures (Duke University Press, 2021) and Race and the Suburbs in American Film (SUNY Press, 2021). She co-manages Mediapolis: A Journal of Cities and Culture.
Scientific Awards:
- 2023 National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowship
Her academic work spans media industry analysis, spatial identity formation, and critical race theory applications in communication studies.
