Elizabeth Patterson serves as a Lecturer with extensive expertise in public planning and sustainable development. Her distinguished career includes serving as Mayor of Benicia (2007-2020), Planning Director for Bay Area towns, and Executive Director of the White House Task Force's Partnership for Regional Livability during the Clinton/Gore administration. She has held critical roles at the California State Lands Commission and contributed to state-level water resource initiatives.
Her research and professional focus centers on Urban and Environmental Planning, Sustainable Development, and Water Resource Management, particularly regarding the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta region. She pioneered watershed-based planning approaches as Chair of Benicia's General Plan Oversight Committee (1995-1998) and led the Delta Public Trust status report, emphasizing consensus-building through conflict resolution for managing urban and natural assets.
Ms. Patterson maintains active leadership in regional governance through the Solano County Water Agency, Solano Transportation Authority, and as vice chair of the Sacramento San Joaquin Rivers Delta National Heritage Area advisory committee. Her career demonstrates deep commitment to collaborative policy implementation across local, state, and federal levels.
