Elizabeth Partington is an Assistant Professor in the Sport Exercise and Rehabilitation Department at Northumbria University. She specializes in cultural sport psychology with a focus on narrative inquiry to explore athlete identity and mental wellbeing. Her research addresses issues like problematic drinking in women athletes and mental health initiatives in women's sport. She holds leadership roles including Director of Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion, and leads British Psychological Society Stage Two Professional Training programs.
Dr. Partington earned a PhD in Sports Science (2001) and is a Chartered Sport and Exercise Psychologist. She has provided sport psychology consultancy for England Badminton, UK Sports Institute, and professional rugby. Her work contributes to UN SDGs related to health and well-being.
Her recent articles (2024) examine the sport-alcohol relationship and narrative methodologies in understanding drinking behaviors. Earlier works (2014-2015) explored drinking expectancies and firefighter ergonomics.
Dr. Partington co-investigated the SportsAid Trust KTP project to design mental health monitoring apps for athletes. She advises 3 students and collaborates with the Women's Sport and Wellbeing Interdisciplinary Research Group.
