Julius Jooste is a Senior Lecturer in Sport and Exercise Psychology at Northumbria University. He joined the institution in April 2019 and currently serves as the Programme Leader for the MSc Sport and Exercise Psychology programme. His academic qualifications include a PhD in Sport (2017), an MA in Sport, and a BA in Sports Science from North-West University, South Africa.

Jooste’s research focuses on psycho-social factors affecting athletes’ and coaches’ performance and well-being. Key areas include irrational performance beliefs, mindfulness, coping strategies, emotional intelligence, and mental health. His work spans diverse populations, such as volleyball officials, transplant athletes, and equestrian center staff.
Recent publications highlight his interest in mobile app interventions for mental health, fatigue management in transplant athletes, and bullying behaviors in equestrian settings. Collaborative studies with researchers like Roos, Kruger, and Watson explore professional development in golf and coping mechanisms in female athletes.

Jooste is a Chartered Sport and Exercise Psychologist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council and a member of the British Psychological Society’s Division of Sport and Exercise Psychology.
