Elizabeth Mavroudi

Dr Elizabeth Mavroudi is a Senior Lecturer and Reader in Human Geography at Loughborough University, UK, and currently serves as the School EDI Co-Lead. She holds a PhD from Durham University (2005) focusing on Palestinian identities in diasporic spaces. Her research critically examines diasporic communities, migration, nationalism, and identity formation across geopolitical boundaries.

Her work explores themes such as diasporic youth politics, cultural hybridity, transnational citizenship, and the impact of crises on diasporic mobilization. She has conducted extensive research on Greek, Palestinian, Jewish, and other diasporic communities, analyzing how identity is negotiated through language, education, and emotional attachments to multiple homelands. Recent projects include studies on diaspora contributions to homeland development during economic crises and the role of qualitative research methodologies in addressing social justice issues.

Mavroudi's publications span academic books, peer-reviewed articles, and policy-informed research. Notable works include analyses of diasporic timespace dynamics, migration as a development strategy, and the geographies of belonging among marginalized communities. Her interdisciplinary approach bridges geography, sociology, and political science to address contemporary challenges in globalized societies.

She has held academic positions at Loughborough University since 2007, previously serving as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Durham University and a Teaching/Research Fellow at Exeter University. Her research has been funded by institutions such as the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC).
