Elizabeth Matresse (she/her/hers) is a PhD Candidate in Literary and Medieval Studies at the Department of English, College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She also serves as a Consultant Lecturer at the Writers Workshop. Her research spans diverse areas including Old and Middle English literature, global medieval studies, feminist theory, and scribal practices.
Education: M.A. in Rhetoric and Technical Communication (Eastern Washington University, 2016); Certificate in the Teaching of Writing (Eastern Washington University, 2016); M.A. in English - Texts and Contexts: Medieval to Renaissance (University College Cork, 2013); B.A. in English Literature (Whitman College, 2010).
Her work interrogates medieval literary practices through feminist frameworks, examining scribal networks, hagiography, and material culture. She explores pedagogical approaches to medieval studies and contributes to discussions on thing theory and medieval rhetorical traditions.
Scientific Awards: 2020 Rhetoric Program Award for Teaching Excellence.
As an instructor, she has taught courses including Introduction to Shakespeare, Medieval Literature and Culture, and Principles of Writing, demonstrating expertise in both literary analysis and composition pedagogy.
