- Senior Fellow, Higher Education Academy (HEA)
- Coordinator, CTP Working Group
- Co-lead, China Summer School
- Member, Engineering Professors’ Council
- Advisor, Royal Academy of Engineering Systems Change Lab
Her educational background includes a Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education from the University of Strathclyde (completed 2020) and a Master of Physics in The Microscopy of Meteorites from the University of York (awarded 2008).
Robertson's research interests are centered on two main areas: pedagogical innovation in engineering education and sustainable energy systems. Her educational research focuses on Project Based Learning (PBL) and Competency Based Assessment, with recent work integrating Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) into the engineering curriculum through challenge-based learning. She also investigates multi-carrier energy system modelling and the integration of distributed low-carbon energy sources to reduce emissions and improve efficiency, stemming from her prior involvement in the EPSRC-funded Transition Pathways consortium.
Her recent publications (2022–2024) reflect a strong emphasis on engineering education reform, particularly in embedding sustainability and peer assessment into curricula. These works appear in conference proceedings and educational reports, showcasing her leadership in pedagogical scholarship. Themes include project-based learning, ESD integration, collaborative design, and student-led assessment.
Her scientific recognition includes being named a Senior Fellow of the HEA, a significant professional accreditation in UK higher education. She has also contributed to national initiatives such as the Royal Academy of Engineering’s Engineers 2030 and Sustainability Toolkit.
- Senior Fellow, Higher Education Academy
- Participant, Royal Academy of Engineering’s Engineers 2030 Launch
- Speaker, Engineers Without Borders
- Advisor, Systems Change Lab
Robertson leads and contributes to teaching innovation grants, including an internally funded Scholarship of Teaching and Learning project on peer assessment. She mentors postgraduate teaching assistants and leads curriculum development, particularly in first-year engineering. She has no listed PhD or Master’s students, but collaborates extensively with colleagues and students on educational research. She is also involved in training and leadership within the CTP programme and has contributed to university-wide responses to teaching during the pandemic.
She is active in several professional networks and initiatives focused on sustainability and engineering education, including the Engineering Professors’ Council, Engineers Without Borders, and the Royal Academy of Engineering. These affiliations support her work in systems change, climate education, and curriculum transformation towards sustainable development.
