Elizabeth Mangini

Elizabeth Mangini is Professor of History of Art and Visual Culture at California College of the Arts, specializing in social and material histories of postwar and contemporary art. Her research examines Italian postwar art, theories of sculpture, global feminisms, and the intersection of art with philosophy and labor studies.

Her scholarly work focuses on materiality in artistic practice, exploring how artists engage with physical substances to convey philosophical and political concepts. She maintains particular expertise in Italian Arte Povera and feminist art practices.

Mangini has held prestigious postgraduate fellowships at major art institutions including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, and MASS MOCA. She serves on the editorial board of Palinsesti and contributes regularly to Artforum.
