Elizabeth (Zabe) MacEachren is an Associate Professor and Coordinator of the Outdoor and Experiential Education Program within the Faculty of Education at Queen's University. She holds a PhD (2001) from York University, alongside degrees from Lakehead University (B.NS, B.Ed) and a Master of Science from the National Audubon Expedition Institute and Lesley College.
Research Interests: Focus on hands-on making as environmental education, ecological literacy, sustainability, and holistic education. Explores schoolground naturalization, traditional winter travel curricula, women’s outdoor experiences, and Canadian heritage pedagogy (e.g., Voyageurs). Examines perceptions of health/cognition through outdoor fitness and diets, and animality studies.
Teaching: Currently teaches PROF 503: Integrating Environmental Education in the Classroom. Affiliated with Pathways - The Ontario Journal of Outdoor Education as an Editorial Board Member.
Program Leadership: Leads the Outdoor and Experiential Education Program, emphasizing outdoor practices and experiential learning integration across disciplines.
