Elizabeth J. James is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Counseling and Family Sciences at Loma Linda University, where she also coordinates the Marital and Family Therapy MS Online Program. She holds a DMFT in Marriage and Family Therapy (Loma Linda University, 2023) and an MA in Clinical Psychology with a specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy (Azusa Pacific University, 2006).
Her areas of specialization include child and adolescent mental health, prenatal/postpartum depression, attachment and bonding, trauma therapy (including EMDR), neurodiversity, and clinical supervision in marriage and family therapy. She is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT49295), licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC288), and certified supervisor with AAMFT and CAMFT.
Her 2024 publication, co-authored with Bryan Cafferky and Heather Beeson, explores autonomic nervous system regulation in children through therapeutic strategies. She has developed clinical programs like Roots: An Attachment-Based Prenatal Depression Group Therapy Program (2023). Her clinical and mentoring work spans over two decades, including roles as a clinical supervisor at Emmaus Road Christian Counseling and mentor for graduate, undergraduate, and parent communities.
James integrates music into her therapeutic and teaching practices, emphasizing its role in fostering connection and emotional regulation. She has volunteered with Foothill Family Shelter and remains active in professional organizations like AAMFT, CAMFT, and CALPCC.
