Dr. Elizabeth Ilett serves as a Lecturer at the School of Medicine, University of Leeds, leading the Oncolytic Viruses and Immunotherapy Research Group within the Leeds Institute of Medical Research at St James's.
Her academic journey includes a BA (Hons) in Biochemistry from the University of Oxford, an MSc in Immunology and Allergy from the University of Nottingham, and a PhD in Exosomes for Cancer Immunotherapy from the University of Leeds. Prior to her current role, she worked as a research technician in Professor Maria Placzek’s Developmental Genetics team at the University of Sheffield and conducted doctoral and postdoctoral research in Professor Alan Melcher’s Targeted and Biological Therapies lab at Leeds.
Dr. Ilett's research centers on harnessing oncolytic viruses for cancer treatment, with emphasis on their immunological mechanisms for generating anti-tumor immunity. She employs human in vitro and murine in vivo models across melanoma, prostate, and pancreatic cancer systems, while investigating how antiviral immune responses impact systemic virus delivery to tumors. Her work bridges virology, immunology, and translational oncology.
A member of the British Society for Immunology, she actively recruits PhD candidates for research in cancer immunotherapy and maintains her laboratory at the Wellcome Trust Brenner Building (Room 5.08), where she can be contacted via email or phone for collaboration and supervision opportunities.
