Elizabeth Hull is Senior Lecturer in Anthropology at SOAS University of London and Chair of the SOAS Food Studies Centre. Her ethnographic research examines livelihood strategies in rural South Africa, focusing on intersections between agriculture, health, and economic precarity.
Research explores how economic conditions shape aspirations and social values, particularly through studies of healthcare workers' professional identities. Her award-winning book Contingent Citizens analyzes class formation through the lens of nursing professionalism.
Key administrative roles include Book Reviews Editor for Africa journal and coordination of the Southern Africa Seminar Series. Hull also serves on the management committee of LCIRAH, integrating agriculture and health research.
