Judge Elizabeth Gleicher serves as Chief Judge of the Michigan Court of Appeals, a position she has held since January 2021. Prior to this, she practiced law for 27 years, beginning at Goodman, Eden, Millender & Bedrosian in Detroit before establishing her own litigation practice in 1994. She concurrently holds an adjunct professor role at Wayne Law, where she teaches courses including Judicial Externship: Colloquium and Appellate Advocacy. Her expertise spans litigation, appellate advocacy, and legal research.
Education: She earned her J.D. from Wayne State University Law School and a B.A. from Carleton College.
Research Interests: Her work focuses on legal advocacy, trial practice, and judicial processes, complemented by contributions to legal education through teaching and faculty roles at institutions like the Institute for Continuing Legal Education and the Michigan Judicial Institute.
Awards: She has received prestigious recognitions, including the Respected Advocate Award (2005), the Champion of Justice Award (2001), and fellowships in the International Society of Barristers (2004) and the American College of Trial Lawyers (2005).
Teaching and Leadership: Alongside her judicial duties, she advises through academic engagements and has contributed to legal training programs. Her current role as Chief Judge emphasizes institutional leadership within the Michigan judicial system.
