Professor Elizabeth Gardiner is the Director of the John Curtin School of Medical Research (JCSMR) and the National Platelet Research and Referral Centre at ANU. Her research focuses on platelet biochemistry, thrombosis, and cancer-related thrombosis, with over 200 publications. She leads the Gardiner Group investigating mechanisms of thrombosis and cancer interactions. Affiliations include ANU and Canberra Hospital, with roles in editorial boards of journals like Platelets and Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis, and Vascular Biology.
Her work spans platelet receptor function, diagnostic reagent development, and translational research. Notable contributions include identifying novel platelet receptor shedding mechanisms and advancing understanding of thrombus formation under flow conditions. She chairs the American Society of Hematology's Platelets committee and co-chairs the ISTH Biorheology Subcommittee.
Key research themes include platelet-tumor cell interactions, neurological disease links, and autoimmune disorders. She supervises projects on thrombopoiesis, receptor shedding, and platelet-based diagnostics. Her lab utilizes cutting-edge imaging and flow-based assays to study thrombus dynamics. Collaborations include the Schulte and Hannan Groups for systems biology and cancer therapeutics.
