Elizabeth DeWolfe is Professor of History and co-founder of the Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies Program at the University of New England. She teaches courses including Growing Up Female: History of American Girls, Sex and the City, and War Letters. Her research examines ordinary women in extraordinary historical circumstances, with publications on Gilded Age spies, anti-Shaker activists, and textile factory operatives.
Research interests focus on:
- Reconstructing marginalized women's histories through primary sources
- Analyzing intersection of gender, class, and religion in 19th-century America
- Investigating popular culture as historical evidence
