Dr. Elizabeth Chen is a Professor in the Department of Molecular Biology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. She holds affiliations with the Hamon Center for Regenerative Science and Medicine. Her career includes roles at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine (2004–2016) and UT Southwestern. She earned her BSc in Biology from Peking University, followed by PhD studies in Developmental Biology at Stanford University. Her postdoctoral work at UT Southwestern focused on cell-cell fusion mechanisms under Eric Olson's mentorship.
Her research explores cell-cell fusion mechanisms across species, actin dynamics, and mechanobiology. Key discoveries include the fusogenic synapse's role in muscle and non-muscle cell fusion. Her lab employs genetics, cell biology, and biophysical approaches to study actin-based processes and invasiveness. Recent work highlights fusion's role in development and regeneration.
Awarded the Helen Hay Whitney Postdoctoral Fellowship, her honors reflect contributions to cell biology. Grant support and collaborative projects likely fund her lab's work, though specific grants are unspecified. She advises students and mentors researchers in her lab, advancing interdisciplinary studies in regenerative science.
Her lab's webpage and Hamon Center affiliation underscore commitment to translational research in regenerative medicine and cellular processes.
