Elizabeth Bennett is an Assistant Professor of International Affairs at Lewis & Clark College, part of the College of Arts & Sciences. She holds a PhD in Political Science from Brown University, a MALD in International Affairs (Political Economy) from The Fletcher School at Tufts University, and a BA in Secondary Education, Spanish, and Pre-Med from Hope College. Her research focuses on international political economy, global governance, fair trade, and consumer activism, particularly analyzing how certifications like Fairtrade shape social and environmental justice in global trade.
Her work critiques the political dynamics behind labels such as 'fairly produced' and explores alternatives like profit-sharing models to address inequality. Current projects include examining the governance of voluntary sustainability standards and their impact on labor rights in sectors like cannabis and agriculture. She emphasizes the intersection of consumer behavior, corporate responsibility, and global economic policies.
Beyond academia, Bennett is an avid outdoor enthusiast, engaging in running, skiing, and travel. Her career reflects a commitment to linking scholarly research with practical solutions for equitable global systems.
